Equipment to ISO 17025 and GMP standard in the lab container
Laboratory equipment in the container follows the principle of works pre-assembly: furniture, fume cupboards, safety systems and utility fittings are installed, tested and documented at the Albstadt works. On site only the utilities connection to the local infrastructure takes place.
As part of Wesemann Holding GmbH we source laboratory furniture directly from the manufacturer — without intermediaries, with short lead times and the option of special manufacture. Every piece of furniture is positioned in the container layout, connected to utility lines and recorded in the equipment list with article number and position.
Equipment planning starts in parallel with container design: instrument list, workstation dimensions, fume cupboard types (DIN EN 14175), safety cabinets (EN 14470), biological safety cabinets (DIN EN 12469) and utility connections are placed in the CAD model. Collisions between furniture, services and HVAC components are thus excluded already in the design phase.

Laboratory furniture in detail
Choosing the right laboratory furniture is decisive for ergonomic working and efficient processes. We offer a wide selection of high-quality furniture designed specifically for laboratory use.
Workbenches and worktops
Our laboratory benches are robust, chemically resistant and ergonomically designed. Worktops are available in various materials — from classic laboratory stone through stainless steel to specialist plastics for particular requirements. Standard widths from 600 mm to 900 mm and heights from 750 mm to 900 mm enable both sitting and standing workstations.
Cabinet systems
Underbench units, wall cupboards and tall cabinets provide optimal storage for laboratory instruments, chemicals and consumables. For the safe storage of hazardous substances we offer approved safety cabinets to EN 14470-1 (for flammable liquids) and EN 14470-2 (for compressed-gas cylinders).
Sinks and basins
Laboratory sinks in PP, ceramic or stainless steel with corresponding fittings and traps. Special versions for acid-resistant applications or microbiology are of course possible.
Fume cupboards and extraction systems
Laboratory fume cupboards are at the heart of many laboratory operations. They protect the user from hazardous vapours, gases and dusts and are legally required in many areas. We offer a comprehensive selection of fume cupboard systems for various applications.
Standard laboratory fume cupboards
Our standard laboratory fume cupboards meet the requirements of EN 14175 and provide reliable protection during chemical work. Various widths from 1200 mm to 1800 mm and different equipment variants enable optimal adaptation to your needs.
Specialist fume cupboards
For particular applications we offer specialist fume cupboards: acid-alkali fume cupboards with resistant surfaces, weighing fume cupboards for precise work without disturbing airflows, cytostatic fume cupboards for the safe handling of chemotherapeutics, or radioisotope fume cupboards with specialist shielding.
Recirculating units
Where extract-air routing to the outside is not possible, recirculating units offer an alternative. They clean the air through activated-carbon filters and return it to the room. Ideal for mobile applications or temporary siting.
Safety equipment
Safety has the highest priority in the laboratory. Our lab containers are equipped with all required safety systems that comply with applicable regulations and protect your staff.

Utilities supply and fittings
Reliable supply of utilities such as gases, water and compressed air is essential for laboratory operation. We install all required systems professionally and to the applicable standards.
Gas fittings: For the supply of technical gases (nitrogen, argon, helium) or laboratory gases (propane/butane) we install corresponding offtake points with isolation valves and quick couplings. Colour coding follows DIN EN 13792.
Water installations: Laboratory water, demineralised water or ultrapure water — we install the appropriate fittings and treatment systems. Specialist laboratory fittings with swivel outlet and foot operation enable hygienic working.
Compressed-air supply: For applications that require oil-free compressed air, we install corresponding connections with pressure reducers and service units.
Instrument integration
Many laboratory instruments have specific requirements for power supply, cooling or extract-air routing. We plan the integration of your instruments from the outset and ensure that all connections are in place.
Whether spectrometers, chromatographs, incubators or autoclaves — we take the specific requirements of each instrument into account and ensure optimal placement. Vibration damping for sensitive measuring instruments, UPS connection for critical plant or specialist extract-air routing for heat-generating equipment is defined in the detailed design.
Sector-specific equipment configurations
Equipment is configured to the intended use. For pharma and biotech lab containers we supply Annex 1-conformant work surfaces, laminar-flow units and GMP documentation. Materials-testing laboratories receive vibration-damped test stations, hardness-testing equipment and ISO 17025-conformant workstation documentation. Refinery and tank-farm laboratories receive AwSV containment, Ex lighting and H₂S/LEL detection at floor level.
BSL-3 containers receive Class II biological safety cabinets to DIN EN 12469, autoclaves, personnel airlocks and emergency showers to DIN EN 15154. ATEX equipment to EN 60079 comprises explosion-protected socket outlets, earthing concepts and gas-warning systems. All components are pre-assembled at the works and recorded in the handover documentation with serial numbers and test evidence.
Works pre-assembly includes functional testing of every equipment item: fume-cupboard face velocity to DIN EN 14175 (0.5 m/s ±20 %), safety-cabinet ventilation to EN 14470, utility-fitting pressure test and electrical continuity testing. Results feed into the IQ documentation for GMP and ISO 17025 projects.
GMP equipment to Annex 1 comprises stainless-steel work surfaces (1.4301/1.4404), washable wall cladding, tight joints and documented cleaning validation. Every surface is tested for particle release and chemical resistance before it is installed in the container.
Utilities supply is colour-coded to DIN EN 13792: red for fire hazard (propane/butane), blue for oxidising agents (oxygen), grey for inert gas (nitrogen, argon). Compressed-air connections receive service units with filter, pressure reducer and condensate separator to ISO 8573-1 Class 1.4.1 for oil-free laboratory air.
Safety cabinets to EN 14470-1 are supplied with 90-minute fire resistance and automatic door closing. EN 14470-2 cabinets for compressed-gas cylinders receive a ventilation connection and earthing. Both types are fixed in the container and documented in the risk assessment to GefStoffV.

Frequently asked questions about laboratory equipment
Which standards apply to laboratory equipment in the container?
Equipment is based on DIN EN 14175 for laboratory fume cupboards, EN 14470-1/-2 for safety cabinets, DIN EN 12469 for biological safety cabinets, DIN EN 15154 for emergency showers, ISO 17025 for testing-laboratory requirements, EU-GMP Annex 1 for sterile work areas and EN 60079 for ATEX zones. Each equipment item is documented with a declaration of conformity and its installation location in the container.
Are fume cupboards pre-assembled and tested at the works?
Yes. Laboratory fume cupboards to DIN EN 14175 are pre-assembled at the Albstadt works, connected to the container ventilation and accepted with visual inspection, leak testing and face-velocity measurement (typically 0.5 m/s ±20 %). For GMP projects an IQ documentation additionally records serial numbers, filter-change date and extract-air routing evidence.
Can safety cabinets to EN 14470 be installed in the container?
Yes. We install EN 14470-1 cabinets for flammable liquids (90-minute fire resistance) and EN 14470-2 cabinets for compressed-gas cylinders directly in the container. Cabinet ventilation is connected to the container ventilation or a separate extract-air run. For ATEX zones to EN 60079, approved explosion-protected cabinets are used.
How is the equipment adapted to ISO 17025?
ISO 17025 testing laboratories need calibratable environmental conditions, traceable measuring equipment and documented workstations. We plan temperature-stable work zones (±2 K), vibration-damped benches for weighing, calibrated utility connections and sufficient work area per test method. The equipment list is supplied as part of the accreditation documentation.
Is the equipment for GMP containers Annex 1-conformant?
GMP equipment comprises stainless-steel work surfaces, washable surfaces without pores, laminar-flow benches or RABS, material airlocks and documented cleaning validation. All surfaces and furniture meet Annex 1 requirements for particle release and cleanability. The equipment is integrated into the IQ/OQ/PQ documentation.
Can existing equipment be transferred into the container?
Yes, provided instruments are transportable and fit the container layout. We check connection values (400 V, compressed air, drainage), vibration requirements and hazardous-substance zones. Existing fume cupboards are rarely transferred — new DIN EN 14175 fume cupboards with validated face velocity are more economical. For ISO 17025 testing laboratories we document the transfer in the IQ protocol including recalibration at the new location.
