Sven Biewald

Sven Biewald is Managing Director of Planexus GmbH, based in Albstadt (Baden-Württemberg). Planexus is part of Wesemann Holding GmbH, a laboratory construction company with roots in modular interior fit-out. Within the holding, Planexus is responsible for modular laboratory containers and turnkey mobile laboratory infrastructure for pharma, biotech, research, hospitals and public-health applications.

The technical focus of Sven Biewald’s work is on regulatorily demanding container configurations — in particular BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories under the BioStoffV and GenTSV, GMP cleanrooms to EU-GMP Annex 1, and ATEX/explosion-protection containers to EN 60079 for hydrogen, battery and energy-transition research. This is complemented by building applications, structural design and official liaison across Germany’s 16 federal states, in Switzerland (cantonal building law, SIA, BAG, Swissmedic) and in Austria (OIB guidelines, BASG, AGES).

Sven Biewald regularly publishes technical articles in the Planexus magazine on permitting, ventilation, installation, structural design, biosafety levels and real project experience. The aim: reliable practical information for building owners, research organisations, pharmaceutical plant management, crisis teams and university estates departments — free of marketing language, with traceable standards references.

Sven Biewald was born in Thuringia in 1985. After completing secondary school he trained as a mechatronics technician at Mayer & Cie. in Albstadt. In subsequent years he extended his qualifications in electrical engineering and metalworking and passed the master craftsman examinations in both trades at the IHK Albstadt/Reutlingen.

In parallel with further training he spent several years in machinery and prototype construction at Goldfuß Engineering in Balingen. He then made a conscious move into the future-oriented, rapidly growing photovoltaics sector and worked for several years at relatio PV.

Driven by political developments and a desire for new challenges, Sven Biewald moved into an entirely new sector for him — the laboratory and analytics field. At Labexchange he and a committed team successfully built the service organisation for used laboratory and analysis systems and established it as a competitive market segment.

During that period he recognised the sector’s substantial potential and developed the ambition to realise his own ideas. In January 2014 he co-founded his first company, Mc Labor oHG, with a colleague. Out of passion for the product, the company rapidly became the market leader in mobile laboratory containers for interim and existing buildings. After ten successful years came a strategic realignment: with the foundation of Planexus GmbH, the groundwork was laid for a forward-looking group of companies in modular laboratory construction.
